Kolkata, 07 November: WEST Bengal government will send a 100-member team comprising doctors, nurses, and medical technicians to Singapore for them to be trained as specialist master trainers in advance critical care management for government hospitals in the state.

The 100 members, to be selected from government hospitals from across the state, will attend a 5-day training module and work as clinical attachment at the Singapore General Hospital.

On their return from Singapore, the master trainers will in turn impart training to their counterparts based in the state government hospitals all over Bengal. For this, the state government has established a Critical Care Training Centre at Bijoygarh State General Hospital in south Kolkata.

The move is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that the state government had inked with SingHealth and Temasek Foundation International of Singapore in 2015 for technical collaboration in providing advance critical care and emergency management training to doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.

The MoU envisages training of doctors, nurses and para-medical staff from state government-owned hospitals in two phases over three years.

In the first phase, a total of 45 medical officers (doctors), 180 nursing personnel, and 30 physiotherapists / technicians today completed the training. Closing ceremony of the first phase training was held at the auditorium of state health department headquarters at Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake.

The ceremony was attended by Chandrima Bhattacharya, chairperson of the multi-disciplinary expert group and West Bengal Medical Service Corporation Ltd, R S Shukla, secretary state health department, Stanley Lee, senior director, Temasek Foundation, and Celia Tan, group director Singapore Health Services.
