Asansol, 28 October: AN unemployed son today strangled his elderly father to death at Burdwan and then went to the police station and surrendered.
The sensational incident took place today afternoon at Joramandir Mehedibagan area of Burdwan town. The deceased has been identified as widower Tushar Kanti Ghosh, 75, and the killer son is Kaushik Ghosh.
Kaushik turned up at Burdwan police station today afternoon and told the cops that he has strangled his father to death. Taken aback by the revelation, police asked the youth why he has done so, but got no clear answer.
A police team soon when went to the Ghoshs’ rented house at Joramandir Mehedibagan and true to the son’s confession, found his septuagenarian father lying dead in the room. Cops retrieved the dead body and sent it to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
According to police, deceased Tushar Kanti Ghosh was retired employee of SAIL’s Alloy Steel Plant at Durgapur and had been a footballer and a noted sports organiser of Burdwan. He moved into the rented house with son Kaushik about eight months ago after his wife breathed last. His elder daughter lives in Kolkata.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind him being murdered by son, but suspect that Kaushik was suffering from mental illness for being unemployed. He might have killed his father out of this.
