Asansol, 19 July: A girl, studying in the third standard at a private school in Bankura town, narrowly escaped with minor injury after a ceiling fan in the classroom fell on her today noon.
Rajashree Soren was engrossed in taking lesson from a teacher at Bankura Patha Bhawan School located in the tow’s ward-5 when the incident happened. The ceiling fan came down on Rajashree all of a sudden, but she escaped with a minor cut injury in the head as only the fan’s blade hit her.
Frightened by the incident, the seven-year-old girl nearly fainted to the classroom floor. She was at once helped out by her classmates and the teacher. The school authorities subsequently rushed her to a nearby private nursing home, from where doctors released her on first-aid.
Her mother said that by the time got the information and reached the school, the girl had already been taken to hospital. The mother said that she had no complaint as regards the prompt response of the school authorities, but was aggrieved that the ceiling fan was not maintained well.
The school management refused to talk to reporters when approached.
