Malda: CHIEF Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a tour of north Bengal, paid a visit to the mentally unstable woman from South Dinajpur who was rescued Sunday afternoon following gang-rape and inhuman torture. [READ: Mentally unsound woman gangraped in N Bengal, rod inserted into her vagina]
Banerjee went to the Malda Medical College and Hospital where the 28-year-old is battling for life in the critical care unit (CCU). She had a look at the victim, still unconscious, and spoke to the medical team attending on her. Doctors said that the woman is improving.
This on a day police arrested two middle-aged men for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape and inserting of a rod into the vagina of the woman. The two have been identified as Andharu Burman (50) and Ramprabesh Sharma (45).
Burman was detained last night from Itahar in North Dinajpur; Sharma was detained yesterday morning from Kushmandi police station jurisdiction where the crime took place. They were produced in Gangarampur Sub-divisional Court today and the judge has remanded them in police custody.
