Cooch Behar: SEVEN employees of Trinamool-ruled Cooch Behar Municipality have been arrested in an alleged embezzlement of Rs 2-crore public fund. Those arrested include three assistant engineers.
Police arrested them late last night on the basis of a litigation filed by a citizen of Cooch Behar named Samrat Kundu. The seven held are said to be anti-Bhushan Singh, who is Trinamool is the chairman of the civic body.
Singh today reacted to the arrests saying that the “law should take its course.” A section of the employees, however, believed that the allegation of corruption has been fabricated to target the employees. Today morning, they put the municipality’s gate under lock and key in protest.
Incidentally, former chairperson Reba Kundu and her councillor son Subhajit Kundu, who are Trinamool leaders from anti-Bhushan Singh lobby and also accused in the case, have not been touched by police as yet.
