Cooch Behar, 18 May: A Trinamool worker has been beaten to death at Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar allegedly by a gang led by the block president of his own party.
The incident took place today afternoon at Patchara village under Mathabhanga block. The family of the murdered Trinamool worker has lodged a complaint with police but the accused are yet to be arrested.
According to an eyewitness, victim Subhash Roy was having tea at a roadside stall early this afternoon when block president Kalishankar Roy and his aides got into an altercation with him. The dispute was over Subhash having lodged complaints with the local BDO over alleged corruption in the local gram panchayat ruled by Trinamool.
As the altercation escalated, Subhash was dragged to the local Trinamool office and was then beaten up badly using bamboo sticks and lathis. He was then left abandoned outside the office.
Residents of the area rushed a critically injured Subhash to the MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar town, where doctors declared him brought dead. Subsequent to this, the family of the victim lodged a complaint against Kalishankar Roy and his aides for the murder.
