Siliguri, 10 January: A Toy Train of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) has derailed near Kurseong leaving six persons injured, including the train crew.
The derailment took place around 02.30 pm at Paglajhora area after the train crossed Mahanadi station. The train was going from Darjeeling to Siliguri.
The train was running down with engine and three passenger coaches. Of them, the engine and the coach next to it jumped the rails while negotiating a bent on the track. The engine completely fell off the track; the coach jumped off partially.
As a result of this, at least six persons, including the driver of the train, suffered injuries; passengers travelling in the other coaches were unhurt.
Preliminary report suggests that those hurt have suffered mild injuries and have left for their destinations after availing first-aid at Kurseong rail hospital. An official confirmation on this is awaited.
Railway authorities have sent an accident relief train from Siliguri, so has been sent staff to re-rail the derailed coaches. Train services between Siliguri and Kurseong have been suspended and are unlikely to be resumed before tomorrow.
