Kolkata, 02 March: EASTERN Army Commander, Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, is on a two-day tour of Manipur to review the security situation ahead of the Assembly elections there. The elections are scheduled to be held in two phases ~ 04 March and 08 March.
On his arrival at Manipur capital Imphal yesterday, Lt Gen Bakshi was received by the Spear Corps Commander, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan. The two then embarked on an aerial recce of National Highway-37 that connects Imphal to Silchar in Assam.
The Eastern Army Commander has also visited important locations in the state including Gaidimganj, Bishenpur, Senapati, and Mantripukhri, where he was briefed by the General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division, inspector general of Assam Rifles (South), and local commanders on measures taken to ensure a conducive atmosphere for free and fair elections.
Lt Gen Bakshi has appreciated the synergy between the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and the central armed police force deployed in the region in restoration of normalcy of the militancy-hit state.
