Kolkata: ENFORCEMENT Directorate (ED) has confiscated gold and diamond ornaments and gemstones worth about Rs 80-crore from the three showrooms of Adrija ~ the jewelry chain of chit-fund company Rose Valley Group.
Rose Valley has been facing a multi-agency probe for illegal collection of deposits from people to the tune of several thousand crores of rupees. Its owner Gautam Kundu and other senior officials are already in jail after being arrested by CBI.
ED officials on Wednesday launched a simultaneous raid at Adrija’s three showrooms in and around Kolkata ~ VIP Road, Rashbehari, and Howrah Maidan. At the end of the raid, they confiscated a total of Rs 80 crore worth ornaments today afternoon.
Out of this, 90 kgs of gold, diamond, and gems have been seized from the VIP Road showroom alone. The seized about is worth about Rs 72-crore. They took away the seized valuables in 36 sealed boxes.
Seizures are part of a drive that ED has launched to attach all properties of Rose Valley to recover the huge deposits that the company had collected from people under various dubious schemes. So far, properties worth Rs 300-crore has been attached, which includes hotels, amusement parks, land, office premises, etc.
