Howrah, 18 April: AN ex-serviceman, who was working for South Eastern Railway on reemployment, has been run over by a speeding train in Howrah.
The incident took place around 7 this morning near Bauria station, which is located 24 km from Howrah rail junction.
Bhupendra Halder was carrying out a routine inspection of the railway tracks along with other railway workers when the Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express suddenly sped in. Other workers managed to jump off the track but Halder failed to do so and was mowed dead by the train.
The deceased was a resident of Khardah in North 24-Parganas district and had joined the railways under a reemployment scheme post his superannuation from the army.
