Kolkata: FACING massive protests by parents, Behala’s MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School has assured that they will help police identify a suspected staff who allegedly sexually abused a girl student in the school in September.
The move comes as police last night arrested another suspected staff named Manoj Manna, whom the school management had suspended during the day. The step came yesterday although the parents of the girl had lodged a complaint at Behala police station about three months ago against two non-teaching staff of the school.
According to a group of parents who attended a meeting with the school management late this afternoon, they have been assured them that the management will share with police by Wednesday the photograph of the second suspect whom the victim child identified as “Gopal Uncle.”
This is even as the school management has been claiming that there is no staff named Gopal. The agitating parents countered this saying that the victim herself has named this accused and it may be the case that Gopal is his nickname, which the school does not have in its record.
“The management has given us a verbal assurance. We shall wait until tomorrow to see what they do and will then decide our next course of action,” a parent said.
The management was compelled to sit with the agitating parents after they took to the streets today morning for the second consecutive day. This despite the police last evening resorting to lathi-charge as the agitators tried to stop a school bus ferrying students and teachers from the school. Today morning, the parents first demonstrated in front of the school located on James Long Sarani and then took out a protest march to Behala police station demanding the arrest of the second accused. Apprehensive of violence, a police picket has been posted in front of MP Birla School.
