Kolkata: STATE government has decided to set up one tertiary cancer care centre each at the Burdwan Medical College Hospital and the Sagar Dutta Medical College Hospital at Kamarhati in North 24-Parganas.
The state Cabinet, which met at Nabanna today with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the chair, approved the decision. The Cabinet sanctioned 35 new posts of doctors and healthcare staff needed to run the two cancer care centres.
This apart, the government has also decided to increase the number of beds at the rural hospital at Kotulpur in Bankura district from 60 to 80. To man the extra beds, 15 new posts of healthcare staff have been sanctioned.
A four-bed critical care unit will also be set up at Frasergunj in the Sunderbans, which is a remote location.
