Kolkata, 20 April: THE newly formed West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission will probe the death of four-month old baby Kuheli Chakraborty who died at Apollo Hospital yesterday due to alleged medical negligence.
Director of health services Biswaranjan Satpathy made the announcement today evening after the baby’s parents visited the health department headquarters at Salt Lake during the day and lodged a written complaint against Apollo Hospital.
The family had lodged a complaint at Phoolbagan police station yesterday against Dr Manish Goenka, Dr Vaishali Ray Srivastava, and the hospital accusing them of negligence.
This came on a day the health department had suo motu summoned Apollo Hospital CEO Rana Dasgupta over the incident. Dasgupta went to the hospital around noon but did not divulge to media as to what had transpired.
The parents of deceased Kuheli, who live at Joka on the southern fringes of Kolkata, allege that the baby died because doctors at the hospital kept her without food for 24 hours to perform colonoscopy and also administered an overdose of anesthesia.
