Kolkata, 07 February: ON 26 March Sunday, Kolkata will host the first ever Pinkathon ~ a run aimed at encouraging active lifestyle and spread awareness about breast cancer.
Kolkata will be the eighth city in the country to host the initiative that was kick started by actor-model Milid Soman in 2012. Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Delhi, Guwahati, and Mumbai have already witnessed the event with the participation of about 85,000 women.
Announcing the Kolkata leg of Pinkathon to the press at a city hotel today, Soman maintained that he and his associates were very excited to bring Pinkathon to Kolkata and want the city to be part of this crusade founded on the belief that a healthy family, a healthy nation, and a healthy world begins with empowered women.
“Empowerment is not a gift of society; it is a gift you give yourself. I urge the men and women of Kolkata to come forward and wholeheartedly support this campaign,” he said.
The run on 26 March would be held at Kolkata Maidan, and people can register online on www.pinkathon.in for the 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km multi-category run. Participants can run donning both running gear and in regular attire such as saree, salwar kameez, hijabs, or any other attire they are comfortable in.
Reema Sanghavi of Maximus Events which is organising the event said that every single participant of Pinkathon Kolkata could choose to avail of a free health check-up from Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, or a free mammogram, if the participant is above 45 years.
In the maiden edition of Pinkathon Kolkata, 50 visually impaired girls and 20 hearing impaired girls would take part in the run in the differently-abled category run.
