Siliguri, 29 May: LAST of the Naxal quartet who had gone to China and had met Mao Tse-tung during the Naxalbari uprising in 1967, is no more.

Khokhon Majumdar, whose little known actual name was Abdul Hamid, breathed his last at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri today evening. He was admitted there for the past near one month due to brain haemorrhage.

Together with Kanu Sanyal, Khudan Mallick, and Deepak Biswas, Majumdar had gone to Beijing via Nepal in September 1967 and had met Mao Tse-tung to seek his guidance for the Naxalbari Movement that they had started in May that year.

Biswas was murder in Kolkata in the 1970’s, Sanyal committed suicide in 2010, and now Majumdar has died of brain haemorrhage. This marks the end of the quartet but Mallick who had taken all the pain to go to China by road.

Incidentally, Majumdar’s demise comes just as Naxalbari Movement completed 50 years last week.
