Kolkata, 19 April: CHIEF Minister Mamata Banerjee was shown black flags by two persons while she was coming out of Puri’s Jagannath Temple after offering a puja this evening.
Mamata came to Odisha yesterday to see Trinamool MPs Sudip Badyopadhyay and Tapas Pal arrested for alleged involvement in the multi-crore rupees Rose Valley scam. She came to Puri today and reached Jagannath Temple around 5.50 pm.
In view of the threat by a priest that the Trinamool chief would not be allowed to enter the temple as she supports beef eating by Muslims, Odisha police had arranged for a massive security. Despite this, some men shouted “Mamata Go Back” slogan when she was stepping into the temple.
That’s not all, after offering puja, as Mamata came out of the temple around 6 pm, two men waved blag flags to her from behind the security cordon that the Odisha police had formed. They, however, could not create any disruption in her schedule.
The two men, said to be members of BJP Yuva Morcha, were whisked away by police. The cops have detained them and are questioning to find out their affiliation, etc.
Talking to news persons outside Jagannath Temple, Mamata said that all the priests have cooperated with her and she offered the puja without any trouble. “I have prayed for the wellbeing of everyone, she said.
The Trinamool chief said that in view of the religious polarisation that BJP was trying to create and infringement of the state’s right by the BJP-led Union government, all regional parties should come together for a united fight.
Mamata is likely to call on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tomorrow, before taking a return flight to Kolkata.
