Asansol: A first-year undergraduate student has died while trying to board a moving train at Sitarampur railway station off Kulti in West Burdwan district.
The incident took place today morning and the victim has been identified as Muhammad Samir (21), who hailed from Sitarampur area itself. He was a meritorious student of BSK College in neighbouring Dhanbad in Jharkhand and used to go to the college by train.
Today morning, as soon as Samir arrived at Sitarampur station, he saw a Howrah-Bareilly passenger train moving out of the station. This is the train that he takes every day to reach college on time and he did not want to give it a miss.
Samir tried boarding the moving train and in the process slipped into the gap between the platform and the train. Noticing this, passengers waiting on the platform raised a huge cry and this made the driver stop the train. But it was already too late.
Samir was retrieved from the rail track in a severely injured condition. A railway doctor rushed in to check on him only to find him dead. The dead body was subsequently sent to Asansol district hospital for post-mortem.
