Midnapore: A car belonging to the convoy of state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari has met with an accident on National Highway 116B in East Midnapore, leaving five policemen injured.
The accident took place today morning when the minister was heading to Kolkata from his native place Kanthi. A Mahindra Bolero SUV moving at the forefront of the convoy with policemen on-board was suddenly hit by a brick-laden lorry at Kandapasra area under Nandigram police station jurisdiction.
On being hit, the SUV lost control and rammed into a tree by the highway. This caused severe damage to the car’s frontal parts and inflicted injuries to five policemen who were inside.
Other cars in the convoy, including that of the minister, were unaffected. The injured policemen were rescued and rushed to the Tamluk District Hospital. Sources said that none of them have suffered critical injury.
Minister Adhikari continued his journey to Kolkata after the brief disruption. Police have confiscated the lorry and have arrested its driver.
