Kolkata, 16 February: THE parents of Poulomi Routh (35), who was found dead along with her 07-month old baby boy in a flat at Salt Lake yesterday evening, have ruled out any foul play into the incident.
Poulomi’s mother, Kum Kum Saha, today told reporters that her daughter was suffering from depression due to the chronic illness of the baby boy and this made her commit suicide. The baby was afflicted colon ailments ever since his birth in July last year, she said.
“We have no complaint against our son-in-law. My daughter could not cope with depression and unfortunately, this made her end her life along with her baby,” Saha told at Salt Lake today.
Bidhannagar East police, however, are not arriving at a conclusion as yet. Rather, the police are waiting for the post-mortem report of the deceased homemaker and her baby boy to ascertain what caused their death.
Poulomi’s husband, Anup Routh works for IBM. The couple had moved into a first floor flat on rent at Sourav Abasan at Salt Lake EE Block about a year ago. Anup’s parents came to visit them a few months ago and were lodging in the same flat.
Yesterday evening, Poulomi’s eldest son, who is 09 years old, discovered that his mother had locked her up in a bedroom in the flat. As she did not respond to his repeated calls, the child alerted his grandparents, who in turned alerted their son Anup.
Subsequently, call was made to Bidhannagar East police station. Cops came and broke open the bedroom door to find Poulomi hanging with a scarf from the ceiling fan. The lifeless body of her baby boy was tied up to her waist with a piece of cloth.
