Kolkata, 12 October: POLITICAL mood certainly swings faster than the weather!
A fortnight ago, Mukul Roy was present at the inauguration of a Durga Puja organised by suspended Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh and the bonhomie between the two was clearly visible.
And today, Ghosh demanded that based on the statement made by IPS officer SMH Mirza, CBI should arrest Roy and question him on the Naradanews bribe case.
Not stopping at this, the former scribe-turned-politician has also shot off letters to the Prime Minister, Union finance minister, and the BJP president urging them not to provide any political shelter to Roy, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha and Trinamool yesterday.
Ghosh’s mood change has been triggered by Roy’s statement in Delhi yesterday, wherein he had said that Mamata Banerjee was not aware about Trinamool leaders’ involvement in the Saradha-Narada scams and that the leaders did it in their individual capacity.
“He is trying to downplay the matter by saying that the party was not aware. How is this possible? When 10-12 leaders were associated with Saradha Group in various capacities, is it possible that you, being the (then) all India general secretary of the party was not aware about this? He is trying to spread confusion” he said while interacting with reporters on the side-lines of attending an questioning session at the ED office in Salt Lake.
Ghosh is an accused in the Saradha Scam and had been in jail for nearly two years. He has all along been maintaining that Mamata Banerjee was fully aware about the dealings with Saradha Group and the CBI should question her first.
Urging BJP and Congress not to give political shelter to Roy, he said that it may be the case that Roy quit Rajya Sabha and Trinamool so to get rid of the “influential tag” vis-à-vis the CBI probe in Saradha-Narada scams. He also urged that no Trinamool worker join a party to which Roy might become a part.
Sources said that like many other political leaders in Bengal, Ghosh was hoping that on quitting Trinamool, Roy would directly hit Mamata on the issue of corruption and misuse of power. But his clean-chit to Mamata on the two scams has left Ghosh infuriated.
