Kolkata, 04 April: GOLD ornaments worth about Rs 9-lakh have been stolen from the parental house of actress Rituparna Sengupta at Robinson Street in central Kolkata.
Rituparna’s mother, Nandita Sengupta, who lives at ‘Kanchanjangha’, the high-rise residence at 5B Robinson Street, discovered the theft yesterday. Subsequent to this, she lodged an FIR at Shakespeare Sarani police station today.
According to Rituparna, the ornaments that have been stolen have been with the family for over three generations.
“My mother had inherited them from her mother and mother-in-law and hence, a lot of sentimental value is attached to them. She had plans to gift this to my daughter during her marriage,” the actress said.
Cops from Shakespeare Sarani police station visited ‘Kanchanjangha’ today noon. Sources said that they did not find sign of a break on the doors or windows in the house, which negates the possibility of a forcible entry.
Police suspect that someone who had access to the house on a routine basis could be behind the theft. Maids and male helps engaged for domestic chores in the house would be questioned, sources said.
