The non-teaching staff Debraj Bhowmick, who sustained grave injuries in his head, has now been put on ventilation at a private nursing home at Sevoke Road in in the town.
Sampa Chakraborty, the teacher-in-charge of Gyan Joyti College said that a group of people led by the molested girl’s maternal uncle forayed into the college around noon on Tuesday and without talking to the authorities straightway went on beating Bhowmick who was in his office seat then.
On being alerted by the college management, a team from the Matigara police station rushed in and contained the situation.
After the assault group left, Bhowmick was rushed to a Sevoke Road private nursing home with grievous injuries in his head, face and upper body. Doctors attending on him stated his condition to be critical.
“The allegation against him is of serious nature and we had convened a meeting today to discuss the matter. But even before we could initiate a probe or some punitive action against the accused staff, he has been roughed up to this extent now,” Ms Chakraborty said.
The college management has lodged a police complaint over the incident wherein it has also mentioned the allegation of molestation that it had received against Bhowmick.
A second year girl of Mass Communications and Journalism was allegedly molested by Bhowmick on Monday when she had gone to deposit her tuition fee. She subsequently lodged a written complaint with the teacher-in-charge.
