Kolkata, 9 June: RESPONDING to a request from the state government, SpiceJet has announced that it would operate a special flight on the Kolkata – Bagdogra –Kolkata route tomorrow 10 June 10 for the benefit of stranded tourists in violence-hit Darjeeling.
The special flight will be operated on a Q400 aircraft with a capacity to seat 78 passengers.
The special flight, SG-9371, will fly out from Kolkata at 4.55 pm and will reach Bagdogra airport in Siliguri at 6.15 pm. In the return leg, the flight would depart Bagdogra at 6.35 pm and arrive at Kolkata airport at 7.55 pm, an official release said.
Tickets for the special flight can be booked both online and on-the-spot at Kolkata / Bagdogra airport ticket counters on first-come-first-served basis. This special flight will be in addition to the daily direct flight which SpiceJet operates on this route.
In Siliguri, state transport department secretary Alapan Banerjee said that they have written to the civil aviation ministry to facilitate special flights by other airlines as well.
“Today we have operated as many as 50 buses from the Hills to Siliguri and Siliguri to Kolkata ferrying tourists to their destinations. The facility would be continued tomorrow as well and as announced by the Chief Minister, the services would be available free of cost,” he said.
Today, the Bagdogra airport authorities opened the terminal building right from 6 in the morning for the benefit of the tourists. This was to allow seating and other basic amenities to tourists rushing down from Darjeeling Hills.
