Diamond Harbour, 17 September: SIX people have died and 13 are undergoing treatment in hospitals after they fell ill on consuming spurious liquor at Ramgopalpur in Kakdwip in South 24-Parganas district.
Of the six persons who have died, five are from Ramgopalpur and one is from neighbouring Gopalganj.
Local residents said that the deceased had consumed spurious alcohol at a country-liquor shop at Ramgopalpur on the night of 14 September. Some of them fell ill on Wednesday night and were rushed to the district hospital and a private hospital at Diamond Harbour in batches.
Six of them died late in the night. Of the remaining 13 undergoing treatment, the condition of 10 is critical.
