Hooghly, 1 October: MYSTERY shrouds the death of a budding footballer at Serampore in Hooghly, who played for the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) team.

Snehashis Dasgupta alias Raja, 23, was found dead by the railway track near Serampore railway station yesterday (30 September). His parents got to know of this from the Seoraphuli Government Railway Police station, which had retrieved the dead body.

Snehashis’ mother Rinku Dasgupta today alleged that some youth from the neighbourhood had summoned him from home on 29 September night and he did not return after that. “Now, we hear that he was beaten up by the youths over some issue.”

“My son was a good sportsman, he cannot commit suicide. He must have been murdered and then his body was thrown by the railway track to make it appear a suicide,” the bereaved mother said.

Police, however, has come across a Facebook post on Snehashis’ timeline posted on 30 September 3.53 am, wherein he expressed despair over alleged absence of true love these days and then wrote that nobody is responsible for his death.

Police are investigating whether this suicide note was actually posted by the budding footballer, who was a goalkeeper for KoPT team. Shenashis was a student of Vivekananda College at Haripal.
