Siliguri, 09 September: WITH only a day before the nomination deadline ends tomorrow, Trinamool Congress on Wednesday released its list of candidates for the 3 October Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad polls.

The list includes nine names for the nine mahakuma parishad seats that Siliguri has. Mahakuma parishad is the top most level in a three-tier panchayat system and is equivalent to that of zila parishad for districts.

Of the nine candidates named by Trinamool, barring one, all are new faces.

The Congress too announced its mahakuma parishad parishad nominee list today and they filed the nomination papers to the Siliguri SDO Rajanvir Singh Kapur, who happens to be the returning officer for the polls.

The Left nominees had filed their nomination papers yesterday.

Apart from the nine mahakuma parishad seats, polls will be taken for 66 panchayat samiti seats and 462 gram panchayat seats in Siliguri sub-division. The nomination deadline for them too ends on Thursday.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be on 12 September and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 15 September.

The voting will take place from 7 am to 5 pm on 3 October, and the number of voters is 4,21,908.

The counting of vote will be on 7 October from 8 in the morning.
