Woman slips through gap between Kolkata Metro train and platform

Kolkata: IN the haste to board a Metro train, a middle-aged woman today slipped through the gap between the train and platform.

The incident took place at Rabindra Sarobar Metro station and the woman would have got crushed by the train but for other passengers raising a timely alarm. The train was heading to Dum Dum and had halted at the station around 12.50 pm.

Eyewitnesses said that noticing the train entering the platform, the woman rushed down through the stairs of Rabindra Sarobar Metro station and almost took a jump to board the first coach of the train. But in the mindless haste, she ended up stepping on the gap between the train and platform and her lower body completely slipped through.




The train was about to start that other passengers raised a cry and this drew the attention of the train driver. Subsequent to this, Railway Protection Force personnel and station staff swung into action. Power supply to the train was severed and the woman was rescued.

Because of slipping through the narrow gap, she had suffered injuries and was rushed to SSKM Hospital. Doctors have said that she is out of danger. The Metro services resumed after nearly 10 minutes.
