Kolkata, 30 July: PUTTING the work for East-West Metro Corridor project in the first gear, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has begun the construction work for proposed Mahakaran Metro station at BBD Bag in central Kolkata.
Earlier this week, KMRC started excavation work at the site of the erstwhile BBD Bag Mini Bus Stand located next to Lal Dighi facing the Writers’ Building. The excavation is aimed at identifying underground public utilities such as drinking water pipes and sewerage channels.
Mahakaran Metro station will be 23 metres deep below surface and will have several entry and exit gates. Earlier in May this year, KMRC had started the work for underground linking of East-West Metro Corridor and the existing Metro route at Esplanade Metro station.
