Kolkata, 26 October: A young mason and a jewellery craftsman from Bengal have won medals at the WorldSkills competition held at Abu Dhabi from 15-18 October.
WorldSkills, held every two years, is regarded as the Skills Olympics wherein participants from various countries showcase their talent across 51 skills categories. India this year had sent 28 participants from 26 categories.
The two young men from Bengal ~ mason Rohim Momin and jewellery craftsman Asrof Jamal are among the 11 from India, who have won prizes and medals at the event.
Rohim bagged Medallion of Excellence in bricklaying by scoring better than competitors from France, UK, Denmark, Canada, and USA. Asrof bagged Medallion of Excellence in jewellery manufacturing by outscoring competitors from Japan, Portugal, and Sweden.
In all, 1,300 participants from 59 countries and regions had taken part in the WorldSkills competition this year.
