Kolkata, 11 September: A young researcher has been found dead in a pool of blood at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) headquarters campus at New Alipore in Kolkata this evening.
Arpan Kumar Parui, 31, had joined ZSI only about a week ago after he was selected for post-doctoral fellowship following an interview conducted on 6 July. Parui was lodging in a seventh floor room in a residential building on ZSI campus.
Police said that Parui’s body was found directly below the building around 8 pm and ZSI watchmen told police that they had heard a thud minutes before. On being informed, a team from New Alipore police station went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Police have confiscated from Parui’s room a laptop, which was switched on, and a saddle bag. They are looking for clues in the laptop as it is not clear whether it an accident, suicide, or murder that caused the young researcher to fall from the seventh floor.
Police said that they will speak to Praui’s colleagues and occupants of the building to find out whether they think that he could be under depression or he got into trouble with someone at ZSI campus.
